GBA Team of the Year Points (TOTY)
There are three ways to earn team points:
There has been a change to the TOTY points for 2010. The sauce will now count ½ of the point’s value as the other GBA sanctioned categories.
1. Each category that the team enters earns the team 2 participation points for the three meat categories and 1 participation point for sauce. Example if a team enters the Ribs, Pulled Pork, Pork Loin and Sauce at a single event that team would earn 7 participation points.
2. In all four categories (the Ribs, Pulled Pork, Sauce Pork, and Loin) teams are awarded point For any top ten finish. 1st place earns 10 points, 2nd place earns 9 points, and 3rd place earns 8 points and so on until 10th place earns 1 point. Keep in mind sauce counts ½, 1st place is 5 points and 10th place is ½ point. Example: 1st place Ribs = 10 points 5th place Pulled pork = 6 points 3rd place Pork Loin = 8 points 7th place Sauce =2 points 3. A team is awarded 5 bonus points for the Grand Championship and the team that is awarded the Reserve Grand will also earn 5 bonus points.
Example: Using the example above this team entered all four GBA categories (7 participation points) and had a 1st, 5th, 3rd and 7th place finish that is 28 category points for a strong showing and the team also earned 5 bonus points for the Reserve Grand. The GBA team points for this team at this event would be 40 points.
The GBA fiscal year ends with the GBA State BBQ Championship, the Hambone Jam. At this contest, the GBA recognizes the team with the most points as well the TOP 10 teams for the current year. In addition to the awards given, these TOP 10 teams will get an invitation to compete in the Best of the Best in Douglas, GA.
